Yoga is still evolving after thousands of years. Inevitably, it has an abundance of different meanings for different people; and for each of our teachers here at The Yoga Bar. At its core, we believe is it about improving mental and physical wellbeing through sequences of postures and breathing.
Pilates was designed by Joseph Pilates. He believed mental and physical health were closely connected. He invented Pilates as an exercise program for injured dancers and soldiers while living in the UK.
Other benefits include improved posture, flexibility, strength, balance and endurance. Classes often integrate elements of yoga, pilates and strength training: using resistance bands and light hand weights to make the classes more challenging and mats for targeted core work.
